Safety Tips for Spooky Halloween Lenses

Everyone’s favorite spooky season is upon us! But Halloween is also the time many of us with perfect vision pick up cheap or unsafe decorative contact lenses, which can have a negative long-term impact on eyesight! Sure, those black contacts will be the perfect touch to your Dracula costume—but are they worth damaging your eyes?

With Halloween right around the corner, the American Optometric Association (AOA) has compiled three tips to ensure eye health and safety are a priority when choosing decorative lenses:

See an optometrist for decorative lenses, even if you have 20/20 vision! O.D.s can properly fit your lenses and give you a comprehensive exam to assess total eye health.

Don’t share your lenses with friends or family members so they can perfect their costume. This will spread bacteria and germs.

Take them out. No matter how tired you are after the Halloween festivities, do not sleep in your contacts. Give your eyes a break.
